It is time for change. Our finances are a mess and most of us are lost and confused about how to move forward.
We thought we were living in this wonderful world that allowed us a certain amount of irresponsibility. The ability to spend money we didn’t have and somehow know that there would be a way to pay it back later. Just about all of us fell into this trap. And now, the new way of investing, spending, heck simply living, has changed. We have to go back to what our parents always told us to do. To save, to be aware of money and to be frugal.
If I could, I’d go back and unspend all of the money I spent on toys my kids didn’t need, clothes that I didn’t need, dinners I could have skipped and shoes. I’m a sucker for shoes. But unless I can find a way to sell my stuff on e-bay or at a garage sale, and frankly a couple bucks for a pair of shoes just isn’t going to make it, I’m going to have to go back to the basics and figure out how to live my life with less money.
The good new is that most of us are in that same position. It’s not just my family that needs to cut our expenses. Others are in the same position. So sales are good, incentives to buy are out there and by watching carefully where I spend my money, I just might be able to keep my house and put my kids through college.
So the new way to survive is to shop for deals. Consider garage sales and Goodwill for the purchase of certain items. Rethink what we do and don’t really need.
It’s hard. I like being able to buy something I see right now. But I guess I’m going to have to relearn how to spend like a lot of other people right now. At least I won’t be the only one doing it.
Who knows, it might even be good for me. Just like spinach.
